We clean the entire dryer duct, from behind the dryer all the way to the exterior vent. Most companies clean from the outside opening only. That clears the last few feet and leaves the rest of the run packed with lint — which is the part that’s actually restricting your airflow. We pull the dryer out, clean the full vent run from both ends, and vacuum behind, underneath, and inside the machine while we’re there. It takes longer. It’s also the only version of this service that reliably fixes the problem you called about.
You can and should clean the lint trap after every load, and you can vacuum the few inches of duct directly behind the dryer if you can reach it safely. Beyond that, DIY has real limits. Consumer dryer vent cleaning kits are typically 10–12 feet, while a typical vent run in this area is longer than that and includes bends the brush won’t navigate. Cleaning from the exterior opening alone pushes lint further into the duct as often as it pulls it out. And on roof-terminated vents, the access itself is the hazard. If your vent run is short, straight, and accessible, DIY is reasonable. If it isn’t — or you don’t know which it is — that’s the case for having it inspected.
